Cosplay

The Beginning to now...

I started dabbling in Cosplay about 3 years ago. My husband and I have always loved Halloween and making/putting together our own costumes, usually with pieces from thrift stores, duct tape, and spray paint. However, 2015 was the first year we actually tried our hand at making costumes for San Diego Comic Con. We did Fallout: New Vegas, and I specifically played a gender-swapped Boone. They were a bit rough to say the least, but we had an amazing time, and so much fun creating on a MASSIVE BUDGET. Maybe one of these days I will put in detail how we made those costumes. Anywho, the years went by, and we tried a few more costumes, that required a bit more finesse and detail.

We learned about leatherworking from an amazing costume designer here in San Diego, and that has just sparked our passion even more! We started following cosplayers, and opening ourselves up to their world. I am now learning how to sew, which I REALLY love, how to manipulate foam, use worbla, and paint. 2018 was the year that gave us the motivation to switch gears from "dabbling in cosplay" to "we are in 100%!" As a fitness professional, it is a great motivator to stay in great physical shape too, since walking around in cosplay all day is definitely WORK. It is not as easy as you think!

So stay tuned, coming up is details on our rough draft/first effort costumes, as well as projects we have for the future. This includes our endeavors into learning how to sew and use foam. We love changing little things, like gender swapping or mashups, because then we aren't exactly re-creating a look, but rather using some artistic license to change it in a fun way. The cosplays I am looking into creating are mostly Blizzard and World of Warcraft related, whereas my husband is more Fallout and Wastelander style. My son of course has to be involved and he loves horror/thriller-themes video games like Five Nights at Freddy's and Bendy and the Ink Machine. So expect to see those as well!
